Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
*I decided not to add any contemporary books because it's hard to tell if they're character driven or not because oftentimes the plot is the character's life.
1. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
This is one of my favorite books of all time. Part of the reason I love it so dang much is because it has MONSTER HORSES. There is nothing more awesome. The other reason I love it is because so much of the story is character driven. It's about a girl who is desperate to keep her family together and a boy and his horse. All Stiefvater books are characters driven, but this one is my favorite.
2. Allegiant by Veronica Roth
While Insurgent was all about the heart-pounding action, Allegiant is a much slower story that's main focus is to study the main characters.
3. Paper Valentine by Brenna Yovanoff
It's just morbid and sad and beautiful all at the same time. It's a pretty slow moving book, but it's prefect that way.
4. Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce
I wasn't sure whether to add this one or Sweetly. Yes, Sweetly is slower and spends more time with the characters, but I feel like Sisters Red does it just as well. It's about two sisters, one who's life is fighting Fenris (werewolves), and one who wants a life outside of that but doesn't want to abandon her sister... and there's plenty blood and gore and werewolves. You should read it.
5. Mind Games duology by Kiersten White
Another sister book that is done beautifully. Both girls are trying to protect the other while trying to find their place in the world.
6. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
This may seem plot driven, but, for me, the heart of the book is the character development. It is done so freaking well that it just breaks your heart.
7. Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead
Focuses a lot more on the characters and their relationships than it does the plot. Or that so much of the plot is the character development and relationships. Either way, this one is more character driven than Vampire Academy
8. Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong
The characters are the heart of this book.
9. Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr
Marr is known for her character driven novels. This is another book where I decided in the end that it was character driven because so much of the plot is driven by the characters decisions and their relationships with each other. It's just FANTASTIC!
10. Hawksong by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
This was one of the first Fantasy books I ever read and it's still one of my favorite books even to this day. It is so beautifully done.
I think I loved every one of these books.. wonderfully put together list and beautiful characters! Great post (:
