Which books would you recommend to Draco?
At first I thought this question would be really hard. How would I know what books to recommend to a fictional character?! But then I started thinking about books that had Slytherin characters in them. Some of them are the main characters, some are villains, but either way they are Slytherins through-and-through.
Blood Red Road (Dustlands #1) by Moira Young
Saba can be cold, selfish, and cunning, but she also is very protective of her brother (and later) her sister. She's a Slytherin who goes after what she wants and has good intentions even if things end up going terribly wrong because of her actions. I think Draco could definitely relate to Saba.
Steelheart (Reckoners #1) by Brandon Sanderson
The main villain, Steelheart, is a near-immortal superhuman (called an Epic) who becomes a tyrant. Basically, it's a world where a Voldemort-like character won the war without much of a fight.
Shadow and Bone (The Grisha #1)
If the Darkling isn't a Slytherin, I don't know who is.
The Hunger Games (Hunger Games #1) by Suzanne Collins
There's a lot of Slytherins in this series. I think some arguments could be made for Gryffindor, but, for the most part, anyone who is playing the game (Katniss, Haymitch, Cato, Finnick, Joanna, Snow, Coin, etc.) is a Slytherin. Again, I think Katniss' loyalty to her family would be relatable to Draco.
Mind Games (Mind Games #1) by Kiersten White
Fia is made a Slytherin through her circumstances. Because of the world she is in she's forced to become something she wishes she wasn't so she can protect her sister. Now that I think about it, I would totally ship Draco/Fia :D
One For the Money (Stephanie Plum #1) by Janet Evanovich
Okay, this one is just kind of a joke. I don't think that Stephanie is a Slytherin. I would just recommend this to Draco to see his face when he is reading it. It would be HILARIOUS! Spandex, big hair, car explosions, Grandma Mazur...What a way to be introduced to Muggle culture. LOL

Oh nice, AWESOME recs for dear old Draco!! I've only read Steelheart and Hunger Games out of these but I could see Draco getting a real kick out of both XD Blood Red Road and Shadow and Bone are on my tbr shelf though! I had a blast reading why you picked each one of these haha!
ReplyDeleteI love your reasoning for selecting One for the Money for Draco! XD Saba's devotion to her family was what I liked most about her character in Blood Red Road- great pick! And that reminds me- I still need to finish that series, lol.
ReplyDeleteI love this! And Draco would be more likely to read a book he knew had Slytherins in it. I think Draco would enjoy The Hunger Games, perhaps a little bit too much. One For the Money would be a hilarious way to introduce muggle culture and life to Draco. OH how funny, his face would be. "Muggles do that?!?" Great list!
ReplyDeleteGreat picks. I'm sure Draco could relate to a lot of characters in the Hunger Games.
ReplyDeleteI love how you approached this question with relating the books back to Slytherin-like characters! They are all great fits. I've been wanting to read Shadow and Bone for soooo long and it's sitting on my kindle just waiting for me to get to it.
ReplyDeleteI am with you on Stephanie Plum books. it would be hilarious to see Draco's face while he read those. All those ridiculous moments in those books and Grandma Mazur! He would be so afraid of ever venturing out into the Muggle world on his own. It would be hilarious to see. Fantastic idea!
ReplyDeleteOoh I just love the entire idea of this post. Your One For The Money pick just cracked me up! That's hands down probably the funniest book I have ever read, and I can already imagine Draco's face when reading it lol. Also, I really need to read Steelheart - I've been hearing nothing but good things about it.
