Harry Potter Month: 4 Reasons to be Excited for Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them

Harry Potter Month is hosted by Faith at Geeky Zoo Girl and Micheline at Lunar Rainbows Reviews. This fun event runs throughout the month of July. Find out more about it here.

A new movie set in the wizarding world is, of course, exciting. But here are four reasons that I'm excited about Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them that really have nothing to do with the amazing trailers that have come out and everything to do with being HP fanatic.

1. The script was penned by Rowling
This woman does everything! MG/YA fantasy, fictional magical textbooks, adult literary, detective novel, and now a movie screenplay. And even if I don't love all of her works, her writing ability is never in question. She will always be one heck of an author whose imagination is magic. I'm excited to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them come to life.

2. It was made to be a movie
Now we can't complain about them cutting out half the book or our favorite characters or weird changes in details. This movie is the complete story that Rowling intended, told in the way she intended. How awesome is that?!

3. A WHOLE NEW WORLD!
Okay, same world, different country. If you've been reading the new content on Pottermore about the American wizarding culture, you can tell this is going to be a lot different. And it's set in the 1920's! From what I've seen of the promo photos and trailers, the historical setting gives is a great atmosphere. The story also follows all new characters who are older and not confined in a school. This is not your typical Harry Potter story.

4. We thought Deathly Hollows was the end
Going to see Deathly Hallows on opening night was one of the best movie experiences I ever had. It wasn't until a year or two later that I realized that HP was over. There were no new books or movies going to come out EVER AGAIN! It was a very sad realization. BUT I WAS WRONG! Just this year we're getting a script to read and a movie which will probably be a trilogy. The HP world is getting all new content from a world that we adore. We are so fortunate.

How do you feel about the upcoming movie? What about it are you most excited for?

  1. Yes! I agree Rowling's imagination is pure magic. I wish I had 1/16 of her ability to conjure up a world filled with such amazing characters. I also love that we have nothing to compare this to so there's really no reason for us to be disappointed by that aspect. The fact that everything will be different - adults and new country - also adds such a unique twist to the world that we know. Everything I've read so far about the American history and magic has been so well done and interesting. I thought we were done with HP too so I'll gobble up anything else she gives us. I really can't wait!!

  2. I can't wait to see the film and to read the script. I want to follow Jo's thought process and to see her method of working on a story in this particular medium. I'm very excited about the new characters and the new settings. I think we might expect a different magical world to the one we're used to and I'm looking forward to exploring it. I'm saving each new photo from the film, savouring the anticipation.

  3. I'm especially excited for this because JKR wrote the script! Plus Eddie Redmayne is such a great actor; I'm sure he'll do an excellent job bringing Newt to life on the big screen. And it's definitely thrilling to have a new HP-related movie to look forward to again!

  4. That might just be my favorite thing about this: the fact that JKR penned the script so THEY WON'T CUT THE BEST STUFF OUT!! And as much as nothing will ever surpass Hogwarts and the UK setting for me, I'm beyond excited about learning all about a new school, and a new Wizarding setting :D I'll take ANY Wizarding World goodness I can get :D

  5. I think my excitement is based largely on the fact that J.K. Rowling wrote the script. Like you said, it's completely as she intended it to be and we'll get to see that product come to life. It's amazing! I love that she saw fit to continue in the wizarding world, even if it's a continent away. I love that this movie has given Rowling an opportunity to expand our world outside of England. To see where the other wizarding schools are around the world and a little bit about them. It's amazing! I can't wait to have this new content! :D

  6. I *love* 1920s era, so putting a wizard movie smack dab in the middle of that was what first really excited me about this! In fact, this trailer reveal was one reason (of many) I finally decided it was time to give the books a try.
I'm excited that it is such a different cast of characters -adults, not restricted by schools- because it just broadens our scope and understanding of the world!
And #2 is probably my favorite. I love stories that are told across so many different platforms like this (like Star Wars, with its massive novel Extended Universe outside of the movies, plus TV shows). It will be so interesting to see how well-done the story is told from this different medium and how well Rowling maintains her storytelling.
